We want to push the boundaries with our product line by designing and producing a much more substantial component. We hope to hit the Classic market as well as Boats & Yachts. These steering wheels will be offered in both D shape and round design but will have an opportunity to have a customized centre cap suited to the clients demand. whether that be individuals or business purchases that want to stock this item once it comes to fruition.

With large projects such as these it is wise to be meticulous and cautious throughout the whole process. We decided to double check all dimensions and design attitudes virtually, but nothing compares to in hand “feel” and judgement. Therefore, decision was made to print the assembly to gain an understanding of the scale of the item and its presence in the real world. The printing solutions provides a 1:1 scale object enabling us to have the best understanding as possible before investing in heavy programming and machine work.
Now that we have a tangible item to hand, we can confidently make the appropriate alterations for the next iteration. A few things to consider for ourselves are the rim thickness, we found this to be a touch excessive. We then found that the diameter of the wheel itself should be reduced due to consideration of smaller cockpits this item may be installed in. And finally, the need for a deliberately machined texture on the back of the wheel at and across the 12 o’clock position. This texture being reminiscent of other products: “Defender Billet Brake & Throttle Pedal”. Albeit on a finer scale.
